the spirit hasn't really been moving me to blog lately. la greve continue. etc etc.

the brown-in-france office has set up a course to make up for some of the hours of classtime we've lost. the course is on cinematic adaptations of classic french literature, and the prof started by showing us a couple of sweet clips. thought i would share this clip from jean cocteau's adaptation of the beauty and the beast for your divertissement. apparently, back in the day, they made it look like she was gliding through the room by putting her on roller skates and dragging her down the hall..also, i really like the arm candelabras. the beast totally reminds me of the lion from the wizard of oz. maybe same makeup artist?

also, as my second installment of my lessons in culture shock...i would like to comment on the near total absence of peanut butter in france. thankfully, chinatown sells dutch peanut butter for pretty cheap! at first we thought it was german but sofia wisely pointed out that "kas" is the dutch word for cheese. also, members of my immediate family may recognize "pinda kas" as something we ate in dutch-owned curacao! still feel sort of sacrilegious when i eat it on a baguette...
